So the last post was the beginning of the super exciting stuff! On January 8th, 2020, The contract was signed, deposit given and the process of building began! First step, ordering the custom trailer which was fabricated in Toronto to make sure it was to safe and to code. And now fast forward to tomorrow, May 12th, 2020 which I have named "Tiny House Tuesday"...can you guess why?! Tomorrow (or about 12 hours from now) my tiny house will be rolling its way from the MMRH shop in Limoges to my temporary home in Almonte! I can't believe Im going to have it tomorrow! Loosing my mind a bit over here - a combination of excitement and a touch of anxiety too. Now its time for me to get to work on building out the inside of the tiny house! So this post is going to be a bunch of photos essentially. Mitch from MMRH has been so good with sending me pictures every step of the way, especially when I was on the road for work. The original delivery date was set for the end of March/beginning of April but then yah know...COVID-19 happened and things got delayed a touch. I am so appreciative of Mitch's crew and I am very grateful that they were still able to work and pull it together despite the crazy times right now! So here's a brief timeline of the last couple months!
January 8th - signed the contract, deposit given, and the order for the custom trailer placed - estimation of 6 weeks to get it made and to the shop in Limoges
February 16th - the trailer has arrived! Mitch can get started on the fun stuff next week!!

February 27th - the spray foam insulation has gone into the trailer (wasn't originally going to to that but decided it was worth the cost) and the walls have started to go up!

March 4th - Walls, framing and roof are up! Blue skin is on the roof and half of the framing for the loft is done

March 9th - came back to the office after being on tour in the US and taking a few days with my sister to enjoy the warmth in Florida, and some of my purchases have arrived! I had them sent to the office since its guaranteed that people will be there. I can't explain how excited I was...they say a photo is worth a 1000 words right! After work, I went to see the tiny house for the first time with it all coming together. This is a voice to text note that I made on my way home from Mitch's shop, "Words cannot even explain how excited I am right now. Im on the verge of tears but Im holding it together! I just went and saw my tiny house for the first time after only seeing the trailer. Mitch has been really great with sending me pictures every couple days while Ive been on the road so that I could see what the progress was. It has been two weeks since I last saw it and the changes are amazing! The walls are up, the roof and ceiling joists and everything are up. The window holes are in place. The bathroom is all spaced out and framed. So great to see how my little living room space is going to work out. He had a chair there so I could sit down and see where the TV would go. Its amazing! The loft walkway is going to be about 5' tall which is great. I don't need to be able to full stand there - as long as I don't have to crawl and underneath I will easily be able to walk around as I did tonight and didn't hit my head at all. Mitch's team is clearly working super-hard to pull it all together. Its amazing how quickly they can pull it together once all the pieces are together. At this point, we're waiting on the windows because I wanted brown windows so that they match the roof and trim - we should have them in two weeks. In the meantime, hes going to put in my beautiful skylight (side note: the original one that came in didn't fit properly so we had to wait for a second one) which will go above my bed as well as the vent for the incinerating toilet and the chimney for my mini wood stove. He can't do the siding until the windows are in place so that is on hold. We went over a few more details of where I want outlets and such. Im really excited for how its coming together. Its amazing; something that you dream about and that you see on TV and now its coming to fruition. For myself, its pretty mind-blowing."

March 17th - Mitch and I touched base to see where things were since COVID-19 had been declared a pandemic on the 11th. Full understanding that we will just have to take it as it comes. Some supplies have been delayed but still moving forward.
March 30th - The electrical has started to go in. The skylight and windows have gone in!

April 8th - Asked Mitch to get a quote for spray foam for the rest of the tiny house - originally thought it would cost a lot less if I did it with rigid insulation. Turns out it was pretty much the same price so decided to add that to the list. Also the door came in!

April 22nd - One of the two siding has come in! Whoot! Getting so close now :)

May 10th - Went to the shop to sign off on all the electrical being done and working. Since I am finishing off the tiny house myself, if anything goes wrong with it from here out - its on me obviously. Everything is working and looking amazing!! Mitch gave me so many tips on what he would do for finishing it off. We walked through the other tiny houses that he has on site to talk about what he did in them and what he recommends I do. I am very lucky that he is so open to helping (poor guy will be going nuts once I get my hands on the tiny house and am lost!) I am slightly hesitant with my feelings on the colour of the top siding. But I haven't seen it outside yet and the lighting will be totally different of course. Its hard to decide colours from a brochure and know what it will look like in the end but its going to be amazing because its my tiny house dream come true!

May 11th - Eve of Tiny House Tuesday...right now...losing my bananas! The anticipation is keeping me awake!

ReplyDeleteMy email is kkj52@hotmail.com
DeleteI am not sure what the cost of hook ups would be. I am going to be fully off the grid so that I don't have to rely on somewhere to plug in. I wish I could help you out with more information!
