Where to start?! The Design?

There are so many places for inspiration Pinterest, Blogs, shows like Tiny House Nation and the list goes on. But it all comes down to personal preference. Ive spent months looking at ads for tiny houses that are for sale as well as new custom builds and I got lots of great ideas - but nothing that was exactly as I wanted...and in my price range. At some point, I will go through the costs of all of this as I know for me it was one of the most important things. Could I have my dream tiny house and fit it into my budget spreadsheet?! (and let it be noted that I have already expanded my budget a couple times...)

Anyways, I will start with posting a couple screenshots of one of the houses that jumped out to me the most. It was (and currently still is) for sale on tinyhouselistings.com and I reached out to the gal who is selling it to see if it would be a good option for me. We messaged a couple times and it turns out that hers has been sitting in one place for 3 years so she wasn't sure how it well the trailer would function for long trips. And that is a very important aspect of going tiny for me, is to be able to travel with it. I want to be able to pick up and leave at any given time if I want to (easier said than done...) The one feature that really caught my eye was the loft. It has a walkway beside the bed so that you don't have to always crawl. As a person who is almost 6 feet tall, I love the idea of not having to crawl across a full loft. Oh and a huge thing for me, is that I do not want to have a ladder - stairs all the way! I once stayed in an Airbnb that had a ladder and it was such a pain to get up and down, definitely not for me!

Isn't it beautiful?! I just love it! And someday I would love to have a doggy to join my tiny house adventures too!

So, a big design feature for me is the loft with a walkway with a set of stairs going up to it. Some other things that were musts for me...a tiny wood stove, an incinerating toilet and a skylight above the loft. The rest I have been fairly open to changes and modifications as they have come along. Oh...a fairly major decision is the size! Do I want it to be super small? Umm...I ain't no super small lady, so that just ain't gonna work for me! Then what size is too big? Ugh! Very hard to decide. Especially without having something to look at for reference. That is when I started noticing adverts for Tiny House Events. And Boom! There was one coming up in Vermont. So it was time for a field trip down to see this Tiny House Fest in Warren, VT...which I will write about and post some pictures of in my next post!

Cheers!

Catching Up a Tiny Bit!

So we are now three weeks into 2021 and I cannot believe where the time has gone. My last post was back in August...and so much has happened since then! A couple things to start off with - Happy New Year! I know 2020 was a year most people would like to forget happened and there are definitely aspects I didn't like but for me, 2020 was a year of growth. I was able to make a dream come true that I had been thinking about for 10 years. Due to the circumstances, I was able to get things done a bit quicker and I was able to do more of the work myself which was a dream of mine. Life works in weird ways, and this one thing had its timing aligned correctly in my life. I am so grateful that I am currently snuggled up on my couch (under my loft walkway - super cozy as its like a little cubby) with a locally made candle burning from Crystal Wicks (I'm a huge fan!), listening to the radio with some little twinkle lights to add to the scene. Here's a little (messy) picture to help you ...

About Time for a Tiny Update!

It is definitely time for an update! I can't believe how fast time is going right now. I'm not sure if its because of the amount of work I have to do on the tiny house or the strange COVID times? Who knows?! At any rate, with work, the tiny house and enjoying the summer (I'm trying to make an effort to live more in the moment whenever possible), I am now almost at the 3 month mark of when I received the tiny house shell from Mitch at MMRH Tiny Homes. I feel like I should be a bit farther along, but with the hottest July that Ottawa has ever seen...I didn't get too much work done in it. With that being said, I had a lot of decisions to make on finishing products which I was able to do in the comfort of air conditioning. I was also able to paint the girls bedroom as a little birthday gift to Rory. There have been many items that I pushed off making decisions on until I absolutely had to - such as paint colours, understanding the plumbing system, insurance and more. So, le...

Update: Tiny House Tuesday

I know...its been a while! But to my defence, Ive been working hard (or at least thinking I am working hard) on my tiny house :) It has been quite an exciting month - I don't even know where the past month has gone. I have been trying to keep up with posting pictures on my other social media platforms but alas I have not really gotten to this one. So let me begin! I will start with my first Tiny House Tuesday - March 12th, 2020. I can't tell you how exciting it was. When the Mitch from MMRH pulled around the corner with my tiny house - I don't think I even have words for it. I wish someone was recording me at that point to see my expression; I imagine it was priceless. It was very different seeing it here in Almonte than it was in the shop in Limoges. It made it so much more real! And the timing was perfect as it was the second day of the bridge in town being closed for maintenance so there was only a fraction of the traffic that we usually have. Driveway space pre-t...
